We are delighted to be the headlining theatre piece for Pride Bristol 2011!
PRIDE BRISTOL
Pride Bristol's overarching aim is to promote equality and diversity for the public benefit. As an organisation it exists to counter discrimination against LGBT people across the South West. Pride Bristol is a charitable organisation and functions on a not-for-profit basis.
Pride Bristol runs all year round and works to support vulnerable groups, including young people, black and minority ethnic communities, trans people and refugees. We work with over 200 volunteers and engage with the NHS, the prison service, local schools, local councils and other agencies on issues faced by LGBT people.
If your organisation is interested in the work that we do, please get in touch.
OUR STORY
In 2010 a group of professionals decided that they wanted to see better representation of and better programming for LGBT people locally. Passionate about diversity, engagement and culture, the team set out to build a festival that would cater for a wide range of communities and for people of different backgrounds and ages. We all felt strongly that Pride could provide huge benefits in terms of promoting acceptance, reducing isolation and providing role models for vulnerable people. We dreamt of an inclusive festival with a positive message and the power to reach thousands.
Generating the resources required for an event with cultural ambition and scale was never going to be easy. Huge personal sacrifices were necessary. Pride Bristol 2010 meant long days, late nights and thousands of voluntary hours. But as we began to connect with more people, we met remarkable volunteers: people with determination, with courage and with an enthusiasm that inspired. Cynicism is everywhere but there amongst the stewards, the first-time actors, the choreographers, the fundraisers, the ribbon-sellers, the musicians, the directors, the writers, designers, bar-owners, painters, litter-pickers, drag queens, and dancers, we came face-to-face with the very real and irrepressible force of Pride. Pride is bigger than any of us and we thank everyone that allowed us to unleash it upon the city.
OUR VISION
Pride celebrates LGBT lives, but Pride Bristol is also for the families and friends of LGBT people and for everyone who values diversity. We aim for an inclusive event of which the whole city can be proud. Our vision is to build a world-leading pride event and an internationally renowned cultural festival within the next three years. As a charity we value equality and diversity, we respect our audience, and believe in programming high quality performers to promote these values.
